So you've got a drive the formatted with APFS but you need to roll it back to HFS+ format.

The problem is, Disk Utility only offers APFS formats when attempting to Erase the APFS drive. Don't worry, the fix is really easy.

The trick here is changing the View (top left in Disc Utility) from Show Only Volumes to Show All Devices.

This then reveals the APFS container in the volumes list.

Now you can select the APFS container, click Erase and choose HFS+ when erasing the drive.

The drive will now be HFS+ formatted.
